A Deckorators Summit Boulder deck resurface in Lehighton, PA with a single-board picture frame, black aluminum railing, and LED stair and post lighting.
At Upgryd, we recently completed a full deck resurface at a log cabin-style home set back in the woods outside Lehighton, PA. The property backs up to a wooded lot with a play set and a detached pole barn just off the deck, and the existing structure had been getting used hard for years — it just wasn't showing it anymore.
The old deck was still structurally sound, but the surface had had enough. The boards had faded to a dull, uneven brown, and the railing — painted wood in a green and mustard combination — had chipped and worn down to bare wood in spots. It was the kind of deck that needed more than a coat of paint to feel new again.

We started by stripping the old decking and railing down to the frame and evaluating the existing pressure-treated structure underneath. Once we confirmed the frame was sound, we prepped it to accept new composite decking and moved into the rebuild.

For the new surface, we installed Deckorators Summit decking in Boulder, a warm, driftwood-toned composite that reads clean against the home's log siding. We wrapped the field boards in a single-board picture frame in the same Boulder tone for a finished edge, carried the color through the fascia, and rebuilt the stair treads and risers with Summit as well.

For the railing, we moved away from the old painted wood entirely and installed Deckorators Aluminum Rapid Rail in black with matching 2.5-inch aluminum posts. The black rail gives the whole deck a cleaner, more modern line against the log exterior, and it won't need painting again. On the steps, we fastened the new treads with the Cortex hidden fastening system, so the stair run reads as clean composite with no visible screws.

One of the standout upgrades on this project is the lighting. We wired in LED riser lights on every stair tread, plus LED wedge lights along the railing posts, all run off a single low-voltage transformer. Once it's dark, the stairs and the deck edge light up on their own — a detail that changes how the space gets used at night, not just how it looks during the day.

The finished deck is a full transformation from where it started: a tired, faded wood deck with painted railing is now a clean composite surface with a picture-frame border, black aluminum rail, and integrated lighting that carries the space well past sunset.
