Rebuilt Underneath, Refreshed on Top — A Newly Resurfaced Deck in Bath, PA
A Deckorators Summit Boulder deck resurface in Bath, PA with black Rapid Rail aluminum railing, three aluminum gates, white vinyl column wraps and lattice skirting

At Upgryd, we recently resurfaced a deck in Bath, PA that wraps the back of the house and runs right up to an above-ground pool. A roofed section covers one end, two stair runs drop to the yard, and the railing line along the open edges has to keep the whole deck safe and tight around the pool. The goal was a new surface in Deckorators Summit Boulder, black aluminum railing, and a frame underneath that would outlast everything on top of it.

The old deck had done its job, but the wood railing and steps were due to come off. A resurface here meant more than new boards. It meant going back to the structure and rebuilding it properly.

Our crew started by taking everything off: deck boards, fascia, railings, lattice and steps. With the surface gone, we could see exactly what we were building on, and we planned the rebuild around what we found.

The roof over the covered section stayed. Everything under it did not.

We replaced the rim joists on the front and sides, pulled the old girders and support columns, and installed three 2x10 girders on new 6x6 posts with galvanized post bases. Every remaining joist was inspected, and any with decay, splitting, twisting or cupping came out. We installed plastic ledger flashing over the existing ledger, put joist tape on every joist, and framed new steps on a new concrete pad. The covered section's old support columns were replaced with 6x6 posts and wrapped in white vinyl, with the roof beam wrapped to match. The result is a frame that is as sound as the boards that cover it.
For the surface, we chose Deckorators Summit in Boulder, a warm gray-brown that sits well against the white siding and the white column wraps. The decking has a single-board picture frame around the perimeter and Summit Boulder fascia on every exposed edge. The stair treads carry the same picture frame with Boulder risers, so the stairs read as part of the deck instead of an afterthought. Lattice skirting wraps the base, framed to match, with an access gate so the space under the deck stays reachable.
The railing is Deckorators Rapid Rail in black aluminum on 2.5-inch black aluminum posts, and black aluminum gates complete the openings. Three gates in all. Black against Boulder keeps the lines crisp from the yard and from the deck itself.

The finished deck is built for daily use. It carries a full dining set, lounge seating under the roof and the foot traffic of a pool season, on a new frame under a new surface. Because the decking is Deckorators, the project carries our 25-year limited labor warranty.

Under the roof, the deck reads as an outdoor room, with the Boulder boards running wall to rail and the black aluminum posts framing the view toward the yard.
