Comfort, Color, and a Fresh Backyard | A New Deck in Flemington, NJ

At Upgryd, we recently completed a brand-new deck build in Flemington, NJ, giving this home an outdoor living space where there wasn't one built to this standard before. The goal was straightforward: a generously sized deck off the back of the house that could hold real furniture, host a crowd, and hold up to New Jersey weather for years without complaint.

We designed and built a new 16x19 deck from the ground up, starting with helical pier footings and a pressure-treated 2x10 frame engineered to carry the load without the twisting and settling that shortens the life of a lot of decks. Helical piers go in without the excavation and cure time of poured concrete, and they give the structure a stable base regardless of what the soil underneath is doing.

For the walking surface, we installed Deckorators Venture decking in Saltwater, a cool, driftwood-gray composite that resists fading and never needs staining or sealing. We finished the edge with a single-board picture frame in the same Saltwater tone and wrapped the structure in matching Deckorators Venture fascia, so there's no bare pressure-treated lumber visible from any angle once you're standing on the deck or looking up at it from the yard.

The railing system is Wolf Vinyl in white, paired with black aluminum balusters and matching Wolf Vinyl posts around the full perimeter. That black-and-white combination gives the deck a clean, modern line against the Saltwater decking and the home's siding, and vinyl means the client isn't repainting or re-staining a railing every few seasons the way a wood rail would demand.

We kept the accessory list simple here — no lighting package, no cocktail rail, no skirting — because the client's priority was a well-built, well-proportioned deck rather than a loaded feature list, and a 16x19 footprint with clean lines and quality materials doesn't need embellishment to make an impression. What's underneath still gets the same attention: every deck we build gets picture framing to protect the rim joist from moisture and butyl flashing tape at the ledger board, regardless of what's visible from the yard.

The finished deck now gives this home a real outdoor room — enough space for a full sectional and a coffee table with room to spare, framed by a railing that won't fade or need upkeep, sitting on a structure built to outlast the furniture on top of it.
