New Deckorators Venture decking, a poolside extension, and a bright white vinyl railing bring this Carteret backyard back to life.

The old deck behind this Carteret home had done its job for years, but the wood had reached the point where boards were worn, weathered, and ready for something more durable. With an above-ground pool, a pergola-covered lounge area, and a busy backyard already built around it, we knew this resurface had to work with the existing layout, not against it.

We started with a full demolition down to the frame, stripping the old decking, picture frame, and fascia while keeping the structure's footprint intact. From there we extended the layout with a 16-foot run, a 4-foot addition, and a dedicated 4-foot step section, giving the space more room to move between the pool, the pergola, and the house.

For the decking itself, we installed Deckorators Venture composite boards in Saltwater, finished with a single-board picture frame and matching Venture fascia along every exposed edge. The stairs got the same Venture Saltwater treatment on the treads and risers, and every step board and last-board run was secured with the Cortex Hidden Fastening System for a clean, screw-free surface.

Railings went with Wolf Vinyl in white, paired with black aluminum balusters for contrast against the decking and the pool's blue liner. We finished the underside with gray vinyl lattice skirting in a Saltwater-toned frame, including a matching access gate so the space under the deck stays reachable without breaking up the clean look.

The pressure-treated yellow pine framing underneath is left untreated and unstained per the manufacturer's warranty terms, so it can breathe and shed moisture the way it's designed to. Now the deck ties the pool, the pergola lounge, and the house together as one continuous outdoor space, built to hold up through pool season after pool season.
