Before we started, this Hampton deck had a white wood-look pergola and matching white railing that had done their job for years but no longer matched the direction the homeowner wanted to take the space. The decking itself was ready for a full resurface as well.
We resurfaced the deck in Deckorators Summit composite decking in Glacier, framed with a single-board picture frame border and matching stair treads, fascia, and risers. The old white railing came out in favor of a black aluminum system with 2.5-inch aluminum posts, and LED lights were set into the stair risers to light the steps after dark. Vinyl lattice skirting with an access gate closes up the space underneath, and a black aluminum gate was added at the top of the stairs.
The white pergola came down too, replaced with a black aluminum louvered pergola that opens and closes manually to control sun and shade over the deck. Between the dark pergola, the black railing, and the new composite surface, the whole space reads as a completely different deck than the one that was here before.
What was a white, dated deck and pergola is now a dark, modern outdoor space with shade on demand and lit stairs for evening use.
