New Sandbar Decking and a Black Rail |A Newly Resurfaced Deck in Allentown, PA

A deck resurface finished with Deckorators Venture Sandbar composite decking, a black aluminum railing, and a stair gate.

Before we started, this Allentown deck had done its job for years on painted wood boards and a wood railing with lattice skirting below, but the paint was peeling and the surface had reached the point where cosmetic fixes weren't going to carry it much further. The layout worked well as it was, with a main deck off the back of the house and a stair section down to the yard, so the plan was a straightforward resurface: keep the footprint, rebuild the frame, and finish it in composite from the ground up.

The original wood deck before resurfacing, with furniture staged under covers.

Once the old decking and railing came off, we rebuilt the frame and brought in the new decking materials — Deckorators Venture composite in Sandbar for the deck surface, stair treads, fascia, and stair risers, all finished with a single-board picture frame border for a clean edge around the perimeter.

With the new frame in place, we installed a black aluminum railing around the deck and down the stairs, capped with a matching black aluminum gate at the top of the steps, and closed up the space underneath with a lattice skirt to match the new decking.

What was a weathered wood deck is now a clean composite surface with a sharp black railing that holds up to the weather with none of the painting and upkeep the old boards demanded.

If your deck's frame and footprint are still sound but the surface and railing have had their day, a resurface like this one can give you a completely new deck without starting over from the ground. We'd be glad to take a look at your space and talk through what that could look like for you.
