A deck resurface finished with Deckorators Venture Sandbar composite decking, a black aluminum railing, and a built-in bench.

Before we started, this Easton backyard had an aging wood deck that had done its job for years but was showing its age — weathered boards, a wood railing that had loosened over time, and a surface that needed more than a coat of stain to bring back. The deck's footprint and footings were sound, so rather than a full teardown, the plan called for a resurface: keep the existing footings, replace the frame, and rebuild the surface and railing from the ground up.

The original wood deck before resurfacing, viewed from the side yard.

We stripped the old decking and railing down to the frame, replaced it, and built the new surface in Deckorators Venture composite decking in Sandbar, framed with a single-board picture frame border in the same color along the perimeter. The stair treads, fascia, and stair risers all carry the matching Sandbar finish for a clean, consistent look from the yard up to the deck surface. Along the edge, we installed a black aluminum railing with 2.5-inch black aluminum posts, and closed up the space below with composite skirting so the underside reads as finished as the deck itself. A built-in bench in matching Sandbar decking with black support posts runs along one side, adding seating without taking up floor space.

What was a tired wood deck is now a clean composite surface that holds up to the weather with none of the upkeep the old boards demanded, and the black aluminum railing gives the whole space a sharper, more modern edge against the brick.

If your deck is still standing on good footings but the surface and railing have had their day, a resurface like this one can give you a completely new deck without starting over from the ground. We'd be glad to take a look at your space and talk through what that could look like for you.
